The Atrium Wedding Venue
We sat down with Al and Lyndsey Johnson, the delightful couple at The Atrium in Solon Springs, WI, to see how they’re helping couples make weddings and events more personal and memorable.
A Note from Maaren & Sean:
In over fifteen years of catering, we have fed a lot of people at a lot of locations. In that time, we’ve learned that just as every wedding is the story of the couple, every venue is a story about the owners.
The Atrium reveals a glimpse into the love story that Al and Lyndsey Johnson share with each other, their family, their clients and the community of Solon Springs, WI.
We decided to feature Al and Lyndsey as heroes for two primary reasons: First, we cater at The Atrium 8-12 times per season. We’ve learned that the venue is a great fit because The Atrium’s layout is people and catering-friendly. As a recommended caterer to their venue, our success has followed their success. We want to celebrate them because their hard work has contributed to ours. When we all get together and talk, we learn that they don’t want to be the greatest match for everyone; like us, the clients they choose to work with are selected based on mutual fit.
Secondly, and more importantly, as we’ve gotten to know them, we’ve learned how smart, loving and creative they are as people. This truth is reflected in the many small and thoughtful details peppered across their venue and throughout their lives. In a cultural moment where incivility gets attention, Al and Lyndsey are a breath of fresh air!
The Atrium is a place worth visiting, but more importantly, Al and Lyndsey are individuals worth knowing.
May you love long and prosper,
Maaren & Sean Spears-Kinney
At A Wandering Fire, we love celebrating the magic of connection with people and institutions who share our vibe and values. Recently, we sat down with Al and Lyndsey Johnson, the delightful couple at The Atrium in Solon Springs, WI, to see how they’re helping couples make weddings and events more personal and memorable.
20+ Years of History
Al and Lyndsey planted the seeds for their venue in 2000, when they started working as camp directors. After 9 years at camp, they transitioned to the wedding photography business. 450 weddings later, they knew their perspective could lend a distinctive feel to the Duluth area and northwest Wisconsin’s wedding scene.
“Nothing Cookie Cutter Allowed”
To say The Atrium is a one-of-a-kind venue would be the understatement of the year. Because they’re privately owned, they are heavily involved in the wedding process and care deeply about every couple they meet.
The venue itself is straight out of a fairytale – a repurposed greenhouse nestled on 32 gorgeous acres of land. “We believe gardens, nature and the outdoors are timeless and will outlive the trends of the day,” the Johnsons shared. “We wanted to offer something to couples they couldn’t find anywhere else.”
A Grand Ol’ Time
The Atrium offers many in-house services, including decor options, bar service, a DJ and day-of hosting and planning.
Because the venue thoughtfully blends its indoor and outdoor spaces, couples are encouraged to choose catering that matches the space and season.
The Atrium’s forest and gardens become a vibrant, ever-changing spectacle from May through October. Spring arrives in May and June, painting the landscape in beautiful hues of purple – a truly special time called the “purple period.” As summer warms into August and September, The Atrium glows with the sunny warmth of the “yellow period.” And finally, October brings the grand finale, a breathtaking “red period” where the forest comes alive, as leaves shout out with a display of fiery reds.
Al and Lyndsey deeply cherish this natural beauty and are excited to share the story of The Atrium with you. They’re passionate about restoring and nurturing this special place for the enjoyment of others. Imagine a venue where your guests can wander the grounds, discover quiet nooks for conversation or simply enjoy the lively scene while still feeling connected to the heart of the event. It’s the perfect, welcoming vibe!
Future Plans
They may have been in the wedding business since 2000, but Al and Lyndsey are just getting started. In the future, they want to continue offering all couples a personalized, distinctive and memorable experience, sharing in the joyous moments found in living and loving life together.
